Professional Background:
I'm a dually licensed Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired (TVI) and Orientation and Mobility (O&M) instructor with a wealth of experience and expertise. I earned my dual Master's degree in Teaching Children with Visual Impairments and Orientation and Mobility from Western Michigan University in 2013 and 2014, respectively, after completing a Bachelor's degree in Business Finance from Northern Illinois University in 2006.
Educational Journey:
After working in banking and corporate finance, I transitioned to education, where I've spent years as an itinerant Teacher of the Blind and Visually impaired and O&M instructor. I've served students in several Milwaukee area school districts, including Burlington, Beaver Dam, Cudahy, and more.
Leadership and Family Perspective:
In addition to my teaching role, I've led vision services coordination in southeastern Wisconsin. As a husband and father of three, I understand the importance of a quality education for all children, which fuels my commitment to improving the lives of visually impaired students.
Commitment to the Greater Milwaukee Area:
I am genuinely excited about the opportunity to serve students throughout the Greater Milwaukee area. My dedication to providing exceptional education and support drives Vision Education Services of Wisconsin, LLC.
Finding My Path:
Working with those who have special needs has always been a part of my life. Starting in 7th grade I volunteered at a week long camp providing support for youth and adults with disabilities. I continued to volunteer at the camp until I was able to step into a leadership role, putting in nearly 20 summers at camp. During my college summers, I worked as a paraprofessional during summer school with the Special Education classroom and found a calling in working with students who have visual impairments.
Education:
In order to build my knowledge, I attended Northern Illinois University where I earned a Bachelor's in Education for the Blind and Visually Impaired in May 2005. I continued my education by obtaining a Master's degree in Special Education: Orientation and Mobility in August 2006. In order to refresh and build my skills, I still search for training opportunities in technology, braille/Nemeth, Cortical Visual Impairments, and Expanded Core Curriculum.
Beliefs:
I have a strong belief that with the right opportunities, students of all ability levels can make growth. I have worked passionately over the last eighteen years to provide technology, braille services, and accessible materials to students who spend most of their time in the regular education classrooms. I also enjoy building self confidence and self-advocacy skills for students so they can take control of their learning and build a path to a successful future. For those students who follow a less traditional education plan, I collaborate to provide the appropriate environmental setup and adapted materials to help the student grow. I enjoy working with both staff and students to provide the best education possible and celebrate all the great learning that occurs.
